Saturday 8th September is the date for our first Last Night of the Proms Concert. We have teamed up with The National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra ,their Concert Band and Rolleston Choral Society for this event. https://www.youtube.com/
The National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra was formed in 1975 as a joint orchestra of The Scout Association and the Girl Guides Association in the United Kingdom. It is comprised of Scouts and Guides from across the UK who have achieved over Grade 5 in their musical talents. In 2016 the Concert Band was added to the ensembles and in 2017 the Big Band was created for some of the older and more experienced members. Scouts and Guides meet together for a week every summer for intense rehearsals, workshops and master-classes alongside Scouting and Girlguiding activities. The course concludes with concerts showcasing their talents in a prestigious concert venue.
You are in for a truly magical night; comprising of a String Octet from the Orchestra, the Concert Band and the Big Band to keep you entertained and a local choir will be joining them on stage. There will be pieces to keep us all enthralled, some very classical, some more modern, and of course the Last Night of the Proms favorites such as Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory.
Rolleston Choral Society has evolved from the Rolleston Music Circle, founded as a gramophone society in 1962. This became the Rolleston and District Choral Society a year later, and we gave our first choral concert in 1964. By 1966 the two groups amalgamated into the Rolleston Music Circle & Choral Society – which is still our official name. We are a friendly SATB choir that tackles a wide range of music, from classical to modern.
